Marla Ginsburg spent 20 years behind the camera as one of the highest-ranking female television executives in Europe. Based in Paris, she produced or financed some of the longest-running international co-productions in television history, (Highlander and La Femme Nikita). However, all that changed in 2008, when, as Ginsburg likes to tell the story, she “landed on her derriere, losing her job, her home, and almost her sanity.” Teaching herself how to sew, Ginsburg reinvented herself in 2009 as a fashion designer, taking center stage in front of the camera on TV Retail Networks as well as in Nordstrom’s and specialty stores around the country.
Ginsburg had returned to the US just in time for the 2007 writer’s strike, followed by the 2008 economic crisis, and found herself unemployed with a lifetime of savings rapidly dwindling. “With time on my hands and a mortgage on my back, I decided that maybe I should figure out what else I could do with my life. At the time, the prospects of finding a job were about as likely as finding a natural blonde in Beverly Hills, so I decided to reinvent myself by combining my creativity and passion for clothes.”
Ginsburg’s entrepreneurial reinvention that began in her garage and launched on TV retail over a decade ago is now a global lifestyle brand with sales in excess of $60 Million. Her product line has expanded to include handbags, jewelry, pajamas, outerwear and a diffusion label called “WYNNELAYERS,” with several new and dynamic additional launches slated for Q4 of this year.
Ranked as a top-selling brand on HSN in the US, QVCuk, and TSC in Canada, MARLAWYNNE and WYNNELAYERS are among the fastest-growing apparel brands in the history of TV Retail. In 2019, Ginsburg’s brands were launched at QVC in Italy and QVC Japan. In February of last year MARLAWYNNE brand collaborated with the national retailer, Chico’s, and was featured in over 200 of its stores across the U.S. Women are not only responding to the quality, style, and practical elegance of Ginsburg’s collections and asking for more – they want more of HER, relating to Ginsburg’s realness, and applauding her climb from the depths of professional despair to ultimate female entrepreneurship prowess.
