The Chic Invisible Sock

No more scrunchies in your shoes!

By Lesley Jane Seymour

In the name of trying to stay hip and cool (but not so desperate that my daughter will roll her eyes at me), I bought two pairs of slip-on sneakers. One is covered in bronze fabric; the other is a jeweled Lanvin affair that I snagged at 70% off. Finally, I thought, trendy shoes that I can actually walk in! Unfortunately, cool sneaks create a new problem: socks. Sweat socks are ugly and impractical–since you’re not really working out. And anyone who has raised teenage boys knows what happens when you wear sneakers with bare feet. So I bought a pair of nylon peds (in Paris, yet!) which made me limp because they spent more time bunched around my toes than covering my heels.

Then one day, into my Facebook feed popped heaven—in the form of an invisible thin cotton sock called Bombas Invisibles, $12. Since I refuse to buy whatever FB is hawking (just on principle!), I ignored the ads—until I couldn’t. I love the Bombas back story: “The word Bombas” they say, “is derived from the Latin word for bumblebee. Bees work together to make the hive a better place.” Better yet, for every pair you buy, Bombas donates socks to the homeless (socks are the #1 request at shelters). Bottom line: The socks are comfortable, cool (as in breathing) and strong enough to keep your toes from poking through; the best part is the thin rubber traction strips on the heels which solved my slippage problem. Try them, let us know what you think.

I love love love love love Bombas socks. I haven’t tried the Invisibles but their regular socks are super fantastic. I was struggling to find socks that didn’t slide under my heels in some of my boots and they did the trick. Plus I love the arch support, and the fact that every pair I buy helps other people too.
